I live in the country and have well water. No chlorine or other water treatment. The ph is 7.8. Is this okay for sw?

You'll want to get an RO/DI unit. Well water (usually) has a high TDS (total dissolved solids) and isn't generally suitable without filtration.

For not much money, you can buy a TDS meter that will tell you basically how bad the water is. In "Central New York" you could have incredibly clean water, or not... Definitely worth the $10 or so that a TDS meter costs to assess.

If it were me - I wouldn't even bother testing, I'd buy an RO/DI and hook it up.
