They look good to me, I like the CREE LEDs; would be happier with Apex type controller vs. dial but you can dial in the color, 12 to 14K may be the max with 12/12. Go with the 90* optics and keep them as high as you can.

If you get 3 years out of them (which you should) they'll cost less than the MH in bulb costs alone.

Thanks Joe. I"m ready to make the move, but I'm almost tempted to keep the MH bulbs and run them 1 hour a day for the "noon sun". I guess part of me doesn't want to throw them in the trash since they still work.

If you were doing this, you'd be all about the DIY versions. Assuming that I dont have the patience to do a DIY setup, and assuming that I don't need the "best of the best" - what would you suggest for a plug and play setup?

Any suggestions? I'm in need of someone to say: "buy this one, it should work just great to replace your 175's over a 90 gallon...."

How about the Chinese D120 light:

http://www.aliexpress.com/store/product...42643.html

For less than $400 you can get 2 of these.... On a 90 gallon, that's probably about right....

Yes - they're chinese....

Any other thoughts?

Still running 2 of the 1W LED (120 vs 55 LEDs), after 2 years only complaint was the corners were a little dim but I have them on a 120 vs a 90

If you want more here's a link to the group buy LIRA did on RC http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1780263 PAR readings on post 186

Oh and yes buy those....will have a little more punch than the 175s you're currently using but be able to dial in a color you like....unlike the ones I got.

Got them, uninstalling the MH setup took longer than putting these in place. A LOT closer to the water than my old setup, and much more pop. I have a feeling running these at 33% power for a week or so will help with the transition. Otherwise, I'll have some very sunburned corals.

Pros:
Really easy to set up
Nice pop on the corals
CHEAP
shipped pretty quick.

Cons:
It's Chinese, so at some point I'm bound to be cursing its name and wishing I had paid for the quality item instead

So where are the pics, before after photos? Blues only, 20% this 80% that but most important Hot bikini model showing them off?? Smile

Congrats on the new lights, 3W LEDs pack a nice punch you don't expect first time out. If you can raise them off the water more the spread will look better, less spot lighting but still get the shimmer.

Odds are by the time it fails they'll have paid for themselves in bulb costs alone.

I'll take a few shots. It's got soooo much pop, it's like I just got a new tank, it's so much better looking.

Makes me realize I'm in the market for corals and fish.. Haven't been ready for those in a couple of years...

Well it's less than 2 years later and one of the light fixture's power supplies must have died. I have no actinic light on one unit....

Hate to say I told me so.... Wink

Well that does suck but they really only cost an extra halide lamp if you think about it.

I finally made the switch to LEDs. They are the inexpensive ones from eBay but hopefully will suffice. I don't plan on going sps again but may want another clam or two.

The blue is so much bluer than the URI's I'm used to but so far I like em
